We are already planning a rolling programme of events, competitions and workshops that will run throughout the 2012/13 academic year and through to MCBF 2012. The fabulous Steve Cole will be returning to MMU to promote his new Z-Rex series at this schools event for Years 6 and 7 pupils. Steve was one of the most popular and entertaining authors appearing in the 2012 MCBF. Steve is the slightly crazy, non-stop author of Z-Rex and many other books, including Astrosaurs, Cows in Action and The Slime Squad. In this fun-filled, frantic session, he will reveal the loopy origins of his many creations, give story writing ideas, show pupils how to dream up their own ideas – and make plenty of terrible jokes.

Riders, in which three teenagers have cheated death and are recruited by a secret timetravel
agency with one purpose: to fix broken time. They’ve travelled from Ancient Rome
to the American Civil War, and in the latest instalment they are about to land in Victorian
London. Alex will also be helping us to launch a new writing competition, Postcards from the
Past, coordinated in partnership with Manchester Children’s Book Festival, Manchester Metropolitan University and Manchester Creative Learning Network. Come along for some ideas and inside information about writing
history-inspired fiction.
